Location of the University of California Irvine
University of California Irvine's campus is 590 hectares in size and lies directly in the middle of the city, near Newport Beach. It is made up of futuristic buildings combined with buildings from the 60's, grouped together in the Central Park area. There are many facilities at the university: The Anteater Recreation Center, the Crawford Athletics Complex for sport-oriented students, an observatory behind a hill, the Irvine Barclay Theater, the Bren Events Center and the Cross Cultural Center, where students of all cultures and backgrounds get together. There are also different places to relax and get something to eat, such as the Bistro By The Bridge or Café Espresso. At the Arts Plaza, students meet to study, visit art exhibits, or attend lectures.

Irvine is a university town in Orange County, California USA. It has about 180,000 inhabitants. It was planned and built into the early 1960's by a private enterprise, the Irvine Company. In 1971, it received municipal rights. It lies only 60 kilometers southeast from Los Angeles and less than 10 kilometers far away from the Pacific. The climate is very pleasant, with average temperatures of 21,7 °C in August and 13.3 °C in January. There are many different opportunities for water sport. Since the middle of the 90's, the city has attracted more IT and High tech enterprises, because it is not only the safest city of the country, but also one the economic friendliest. One can relax in one of the 18 Community parks or the 35 neighborhood parks, or use one of the many sport complexes, or visit The Irvine Fine Arts Center, created in 1980.

Description:

With the TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Program at the UC Irvine Extension, students can begin preparing for a career in Teaching.

During the six-month program, teaching methods in the English language are taught, and students have the opportunity to work together with experienced American professors.

After successful completion of the TEFL training, the student is awarded a certificate.

Campus dorms

Students participating in a 10-week English course, can live in a dormitory on campus. Here, they will live in a furnished double room, where they will share it with one more student. Meal plans must be organized on ones own.

The cost for 10 weeks, per person, is about US$ 1,870.

Near the campus area, students can live in fully-furnished university-owned apartments, that can be lived in by four students in two bedrooms. They have the option to organize their own meal plan, or pick a particular university meal plan.

The cost varies depending on type of study. For example, a ten-week English course, per person, is US$ 2,310.

Homestay

Students interested in experiencing American culture and language first-hand can consider living with a host family. Here one can have a more private life than on campus. Normally, the rooms are all furnished and are relatively cheaper. Most families allow the student to use the kitchen, or they can receive a meal plan from the family.

The average price for a bedroom with shared bathroom is about US$ 500 - US$ 700 per month. For a bedroom with a private bathroom the cost is about US$ 595 - US$ 850.
