City Profile Auckland
Auckland City has about 420.000 inhabitants and is the country´s biggest city. It lies in the Northern part of New Zealand and belongs to the Auckland region. Many islands in the Hauraki Gulf belong to Auckland such as Waiheke Island and Great Barrier Island. The airport lies 121 kilometers southwest of the city centre, and most of the unique destinations and attractions are not far away from downtown as well. You can easily reach your destination by car, train, bus or ferry, but you can just as well book a guided sightseeing tour. The climate is temperate with warm summers and temperatures around 24 °C and slightly cooler winters with 16 °C; there are no extreme temperatures. Auckland is also called the “City of Sails” and is considered as one of the world´s best Lifestyle-Cities since the cosmopolitan city centre is complemented by the surrounding nature. You can do some shopping, enjoy the nightlife, have dinner in a restaurant or visit one of the many attractions. Further events are being held regularly such as the Propecia Rally New Zealand, the Ellerslie Flowers Show or the Air New Zealand Fashion Week. Culturally, there are many offerings as well: the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki, the Auckland Museum in a landmark building which offers a great view of the Waitemata Harbor and a lot more.
